Ventre Victorious at WPT London National Main Event

John Ventre has been crowned the first ever PartyPoker WPT National London Main Event winner. The Canadian-born Londoner was one of 335 players who took the tables at Aspers for the £200 buy-in event which featured a unique accumulator format.

The new format proved popular with the three opening flights attracting 510 entries with 50 players taking the opportunity to buy-in for all three levels. After all the numbers had been totted up there was a prize pool of £91,980 to be won with Ventre eventually taking £20,250 of it.

The 37-year-old worked his way through a final table that included Erik Sund, Martynas Vitkauskas and Timotheos Timotheou to set up a heads up clash with Mohammed Suhail. Ventre went into two-handed play with a sizeable chip lead and it didn't take him long to put that advantage to good use.

With the blinds reaching crippling proportions Ventre called Suhail's four bet shove with K3 and was in great shape holding AQ, especially after the A-Q-3 flop that followed. The turn and river were blanks, leaving the London-based fund manager to celebrate victory and his biggest live score to date.

“It’s been a great first stop of the new partypoker WPT National UK tour, to achieve 510 entries is fantastic,” said Lee Johnston, the WPT Tournament Manager. “The feedback we have received from the players has been very positive, everyone has had such a great event experience; they’ve praised all the features that have made the event a success, which includes the accumulator concept, the hospitality in the partypoker lounge, the WPT players party and the great staff and support from Aspers Casino.

“For such a small outlay the players have a number of chances to create a stack to play for big money,” Johnston added. “It’s amazing how much of the field were recreational players that had won seats either through partypoker online or Aspers live satellites. For the vast majority of players this was their first major poker event.”
