Vanessa Selbst wins NAPT Mohegan Sun for $750k

Monday, 12 April 2010

A 25-year-old law undergraduate steamrolled a tough final table to take down the PokerStars NAPT Mohegan Sun event, beating a field of 716 runners to take down a first place prize of $750,000. Of course, said undergraduate was noted video instructor and WSOP bracelet-winner Vanessa Selbst, so…

Selbst beat out competition from Scott Seiver (4th place) and Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy (7th place) to win the inaugural NAPT event and the largest tournament held at Mohegan Sun.

Extra-special for Selbst was the fact that she won the tournament in her home state of Connecticut. The NAPT event was the largest poker tournament ever held in the state.

"It feels awesome [to win so close to home],” said a delighted Selbst. "The most meaningful part of this for me was definitely having a lot of my friends that don't play poker and a lot of my friends from law school see this, and my girlfriend was able to come.

"It was just really great to have everybody here and to see this. This is the hugest moment that I've had in poker so far, so it was really nice to have everybody so close."

The full list of final table placings and payouts is as follows:

1st: Vanessa Selbst - $750,000
