Is poker the new rock and roll? The sport’s status has certainly attracted an extraordinary amount of celebrity interest in recent times, and this coming Wednesday, March 14, poker will be in for the rock and roll treatment, as VH1 airs the inaugural Celebrity Poker Tournament.
Produced by Tenner & Associates, the tourney brought rockers and metal heads together with poker pros for a televised charity event at the Flamingo Hotel. Players from rock and roll’s hierarchy including Vinnie Paul of Pantera, Sully Erna of Godsmack and Dusty Hill of ZZ Top, pitched their poker skills against seasoned poker pros Antonio Esfandiari and Phil Laak.
Two unknown players also arrived at the tournament after winning their seats on Ultimate Bet. Commentators Phil Hellmuth and Mark Tenner joined tournament director Matt Savage to keep a trained eye on events.
Each of the players chose a favourite charity to which any winnings would be donated.
