There’s every chance that this year could see an unlikely new WSOP Ladies champion – a complete unknown from Halifax, England. Angela Thacker, 30, won herself a seat at the event having beaten off stiff competition at the Betfair Ladies Night Poker final.
The event, which featured women from across the UK and Ireland, was designed as a showcase for new female talent and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The final table was a close run thing between Thacker, Vera Duffy from Ireland and Francine Brandler. The latter was taken out with triple twos, leaving Thacker and Duffy to battle it out for the ticket to Vegas. In the end, Thacker triumphed with a pair of fours.
What makes her achievement even more remarkable is that she had never played in a live event before. Now she will take on the best on offer at the WSOP in Vegas. Considering she’s never even visited London, this is a massive success for the 30-year-old. If she manages to make the final stages, then surely a pro career is beckoning.
