Unibet Acquires iGame

Following a recent report that its profits had jumped up markedly in recent months, Unibet has just announced the acquisition of iGame Holding plc.

A Scandinavian outfit that has interests in poker, casino gaming and sports betting, iGame will now be completely absorbed by the Unibet brand following a €59 million deal.

Although Unibet's poker product has struggled to maintain its standing in the industry over the last few years, recent tweaks have seen the platform begin to thrive once again and many believe the purchase of iGame could bolster its fortunes further.

Indeed, back in July, 2015, Unibet also took control of Stan James Online, a move which will now see it become an even bigger force in the sports betting arena. This acquisition, in conjunction with the recent takeover of iGame, certainly appears to be a sign that Unibet is looking to enhance its assets in 2015 ready for some big things in 2016.

For poker players, the recent moves by Unibet aren't likely to have much of an immediate impact. However, with Stan James and iGame each having poker assets, it could certainly help improve traffic on the site and give Unibet some extra reach in various sectors of the industry.

In fact, according to the company's CEO, Henrik Tjärnström, the recent takeovers will help improve Unibet's core business in a number of areas.

"The iGame brands are well known in their local markets and we see a lot of potential by combining our bigger scale, mobile, cross-channel and product expertise with their local focus. As the majority of the iGame revenues comes from casino, our joint plan is to keep a number of these brands as a complement to our existing brands, Unibet and Maria," said Tjärnström.
