After an action-packed but gruelling 10 days of highly charged poker tourneys, the Ultimate Bet Online Championship ended on with the $1,000,000 guaranteed Main Event.
Commentating on the highs and lows at a simulcast were poker pros Phil Hellmuth and Nick Geber who watched as Maria Nuccia beat the giant 1,400 strong field each of whom bought in at $500 + 30, delivering a $300 000 overlay – claimed to be one of the largest ever in the industry. As a result, 140 players received at least $1,000, and players fought ferociously for a first prize of $211,500.
The heads-up battle took place between players Fred420 and Maria Nuccia with the former holding a dominant lead until his opponent doubled through on a key hand to bring the match close to even. The two players agreed on an equal split for the remaining prize money, and continued play for the title and those all-important bragging rights.
After taking control by doubling through for almost all of the chips in play, Maria Nuccia claimed the title with A-7 to Fred420's A-3. A flopped seven sealed the hand and the game’s fate for Nuccia.
