Having grown into multi-million dollar industry in just a few years, online gaming now appears to be the subject of critical scrutiny. Two new studies, one conducted in the United States, the other in the UK, show that online gaming is not only big business, but also that players want more government control and are inherently distrustful of both gaming companies and other players.
The American Gaming Association’s report found that most online players were affluent and college educated, with over 70 per cent of them taking up gaming in the past two years. Half of those questioned though, believe that offshore companies will happily try and cheat them out of money, along with unscrupulous players.
Similarly, the UK report, conducted by Prime Table Games, found that players wanted to be made aware of companies operating outside of the Commonwealth.
Three in ten said they were against the outsourcing of the operations of an online gaming company.
Both reports point to gamers wanting better regulation from the top levels of government in the United States and the UK.
