US Still Leads the Market in Real Money Poker

US Still Leads the Market in Real Money Poker

Friday, 31 July 2009

According to a survey taken by the PPR (Poker Players’ Research), the USA is still by far the leading market in online poker real money games despite the efforts of the Bush administration with their Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

Staying in the US market has enabled sites like PokerStars and Full Tilt to take more than half the online poker market share, at the expense of operators who pulled out of the US upon passage of the UIGEA in late 2006. These include PartyGaming, which settled with the US authorities for $105m in April for its activities prior to UIGEA.

The list of top five countries by the amount of real money players is as follows:

USA 10 million
UK 1.9 million
Germany 1.6 million
Nordic countries 1.4 million
France 1.3 million
