High stakes poker is about to hit even more UK TV screens in one of the countries biggest ever TV gaming deals. Sunset and Vine, a Wales based production company, yesterday announced deals for 5 new series worth £4 million, to be aired on the Challenge channel.
This means over 85 hours of programming and kicks off with the PokerStars backed European Poker Tour which is already in the can, and the World Cup of Poker which is to be shot over the summer in Barcelona. Perhaps the best of the lot is Interpoker's University Poker Clash, which will pit the best students in the UK against each other.
Not ones to miss out on cashing in on celeb poker, Sunset and Vine have also announced a British version of Showbiz Poker, including soccer star Teddy Sheringham and Band of Brothers actor Dexter Fletcher. Finally they'll be taking a punt on the unknown quantity of Showbiz Blackjack. Whichever way you look at it, TV gaming has finally broken into mainstream TV in the UK.
