UIGEA in effect from today

It's finally here, run for your lives! Or something - the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act comes into effect today. Since it was passed as part of an unrelated port security act it was assumed that the nonsensical ban on online poker would be repealed before today.

However, if you watch non-poker-related news you'll know that the US government has more to deal with than online poker at the moment, meaning that from today US players cannot deposit to an online poker site. Note this does NOT mean that online poker is illegal in the US - it will just be quite hard to put money online.

Withdrawals are A-OK, though it is noted that many sites are increasing their minimum withdrawal limits. Overall it is a state-by-state decision as to whether online poker will be rigourously cracked down on.
