UB cancels 2010 Aruba Classic tournament

UB cancels 2010 Aruba Classic tournament

Friday, 12 March 2010

Now that the World Poker Tour is in safe hands and going strong, you don’t often hear of poker tournaments falling through. However, to the surprise of many, UB have cancelled their Aruba Poker Classic – well, they’ve put it “on hiatus from 2010”.

“It is with great regret that we are announcing that the Aruba event will not run this year but 2010 is going to be an exciting year for UB and its players,” said Tokwiro chief operating officer Paul Leggett. “Over the last year, we have been redefining the UB brand in every way. We love the Aruba Poker Classic event but we think we can do a lot more for our players by investing in new events and rewards.”

To be fair, in addition to making the presence of their pros and players felt at existing tournaments (case in point: Hellmuth leads the Bay 101 tournament as we speak) they want to add a new online tournament series and make the UB Online Championship biannual.

UB are adding a $500,000 monthly tournament to their already-impressive books and hope to make it a $1m guarantee within the year.
