Tyron Krost keeps Aussie Millions title on home soil

Tyron Krost keeps Aussie Millions title on home soil

Monday, 1 February 2010

Despite everyone on the rail, both at Melbourne’s Crown Casino and at millions of computers the world over, wanting Annette “Annette_15” Obrestad to take down the $10,500 Aussie Millions Main Event, local player Tyron Krost took down the event for $2m AUD.

Betfair pro Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi arrived leading the final eight with an overwhelming chip lead with around three times more than second placed Krost. However, the Aussie managed to take out Annette Obrestad and Mizzi by being on the right side of huge all-in coinflips.

It was Frederik Jensen who faced 23-year-old Krost in the final heads-up confrontation. In the end he got it in badly dominated with Kd-6s against Krost’s Ks-9d after a king high flop. There was no help for the outkicked Jensen who couldn’t make two pair or even find a split pot. He can console himself with $1.1m AUD.

"This is totally unbelievable - it is beyond my wildest dreams." said Krost, "If it is a dream, I don't want to wake up! In total I spent $700 trying to qualify for a package and I have managed to turn that into AUD$2,000,000! I got some really good spots on the final table. When I needed a hand I seemed to get it.”

"It just hasn't sunk in at all how much money I have just won. I have no idea what I am going to with it. I cashed at the World Series in 2008 but nothing like this."

The full final table standings and payouts are as follows:

1st: Tyron Krost - $2,000,000
2nd: Frederik Jensen - $1,100,000
3rd: Sorel Mizzi - $715,000
4th: Kosta Varoxis - $450,000
5th: Peter Jetten - $350,000
6th: Steve Friedlander - $250,000
7th: Annette Obrestad - $175,000
8th: Stephen Shelly - $125,000
