Top names confirmed for Ante Up For Africa

Players at this year's World Series will once again get the chance to rub shoulders with some of Hollywood's A list and help a very worthy cause, all in the name of poker. The fourth annual Ante Up For Africa tournament will take place at the Rio on Saturday 3rd July and a number of top names from the worlds of showbusiness and poker have confirmed that they'll be playing.

Heading the list from the showbiz world are regulars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Joining them in the $5,000 event will be Everyone Loves Raymond stars Ray Romano and Brad Garrett, Oscar nominated actor Don Cheadle and a host of other big names from sport, stage and screen.

The poker community will be represented by amongst others Andy Bloch, Howard Lederer, Erik Seidel, Phil Gordon and Chris Ferguson.

Ante Up For Africa co founder Annie Duke said, “It is an honor to be working with the WSOP and the Rio for the 4th year of Ante Up For Africa. We created this event to make a positive impact on the lives of those in Darfur and throughout Africa. I am delighted the event continues to grow every year boasting more celebrities, more players and more poker pros.”

Fellow founder Cheadle added, “We are so thankful to everyone who has participated in Ante Up For Africa throughout the years and are thrilled to have raised nearly $3 million to date to assist those in need. We are making tremendous strides in raising awareness and hope this year’s tournament is a huge charitable success.”

Ante Up For Africa has most recently made donations to and the Eastern Congo Initiative, a pair of organisations focused on supporting local, community-based solutions to some of Africa’s greatest challenges.
