Tongi heads UKIPT Cork after Day 1A

Friday, 15 February 2013

Pascal Tongi is the man to beat after the opening day's action at UKIPT Cork. Numbers were slightly lower than anticipated with 143 players hitting the tables on Day 1A with just 58 of them securing their place in Day 2.

Tongi, who qualified online at PokerStars, closed the day with 124,500, thanks largely to scooping two massive pots. The first saw the German on the right side of a set over set clash while the second saw him pick off a five-bet shove with kings.

Joining Tongi at the head of the leader board are Irishman Karl Thompson 99,400 followed by Stephen McGrath and Philip Peters who'll return with 82,400 and 75,700 respectively.

Notables to survive the opening flight include Tom Hall (41,900), Dermot Blain (37,700), Mick McCloskey (32,400) and Paul McTaggart (9,100).

A much bigger field is expected for the second opening flight which gets under way at noon with the likes of Team PokerStars Pros Jake Cody and Liv Boeree set to make their bow.
