Tommy Vedes leads WPT Malta Day 1b; 240 entries total

Thursday, 22 September 2011

Day 1b of the inaugural WPT Malta event concluded last night with a total of 240 entries – including re-entries from busted players on Day 1b – creating a prize pool of €698,400 with 154 players returning for Day 2.

Day 1b saw 139 players sit down and the survivors will join with the Day 1a field today to play out Day 2. Leading the way is Tommy Vedes, a man with WPT gold already under his belt having won the Festa al Lago in 2009 for over $1.2m. He finished Day 1b with 115,000.

One man who used the re-entry to his advantage was Phil Hellmuth – yesterday he entered the event in the dying stages and lasted all of one hand, stacking off with a stone bluff and leaving soon after. Today he managed to hover around his starting stack and the Poker Brat will be returning for Day 2.

Other big names coming back today include Antoine Saout, Tony G, Isaac Haxton and David Vamplew, all with above-average stacks.
