Friday, 27 March 2009

Kent’s Tom Bentham overcame a strong challenge from Richard Gryko to claim the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour London Heads Up Event.

Bentham, better known as an online cash game player, saw off 2008 Irish Open Champion Neil Channing in the opening round, Ketul Nathwani in the quarter final and Vach Nankoosing in the semi final to set up a meeting with pre-tournament favourite Gryko in the final.

All the chips went in with Bentham holding Ad-5d and Gryko Kc-8C on a 2d-4d-8s board. An ace hit on the river to give Bentham the victory and cheque for £20,000 and a seat in the Champion of Champions tournament. Runner-up Gryko collected £10,000.

In other GUKPT London side events, Richard Kellett claimed the £26,350 first prize in the £200 NL Hold’em Rebuy, with Garry Mills winning £13,200 in the £500 PL Omaha Double Chance Freezeout.
