Toby's WCOOP Triumph

Toby's WCOOP Triumph

Tuesday, 10 September 2013

When you're hot, you're hot and there's arguably nobody more sizzling in poker at the moment than Toby Lewis who has followed up his recent FTOPS triumph by claiming a WCOOP bracelet.

Lewis, who plays online as 810ofclubs, bested a 2,090 runner field in WCOOP event #6, the $215 NLHE Turbo Rebuy. There were plenty of notable names amongst that number including Ike Haxton, Randy 'nanonoko' Lew and Mickey 'mement_mori' Petersen but none could match the young Englishman who took less than five hours to seal victory.

Heads up play was an all UK affair (of sorts) with Lewis taking on Bournemouth-based Spaniard Sergi 'srxakgirona' Reixach for the title. With the stacks even at the start of two-handed play the pair agreed chip-based split before playing on for $15k and the title.

It looked like Reixach would be taking the extra cash after flopping trip queens with Q5 to crush Lewis' pocket aces. That advantage didn't last long though with Lewis doubling up with A-10 after srxakgirona had pushed on the short stack with 6s9s.

A brief back and forth followed before the deciding hand of the tournament arrived. After an initial min-raise from Reixach, Lewis moved all in. Srxakgirona made the call, revealing KhJs which was slightly behind Lewis' Ad8c. An AhQc8h gave Lewis a huge lead which was confirmed by another 8 on the turn.

“OIOI ONLY BINKED IT OFF DIDNT WE! F*CK ME IM DIFFERENT CLASS LUCKY! #WCOOP #WINNER #189k #HAHAHA” tweeted a jubilant Lewis, who managed to scoop the title while having an eye on the evening's NFL action. That's proper multitasking.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1. 810ofclubs (United Kingdom) -- $189,379.23*
2. srxakgirona (United Kingdom) -- $169,300.77*
