Tobias Reinkemeier leads PCA Super High Roller

Friday, 7 January 2011

The buzz around the Atlantis Resort yesterday was tangible as 38 players put up $100,000 in order to compete in the first ever PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller tournament. With blinds at 500/1,000 and 250,000 starting stacks you could be forgiven for expecting a slow and easy ride to the final table.

You’d be wrong. Within fifteen minutes we had our first elimination and by the end of Day 1 there are only 23 out of the 38 original players remaining in contention. Tobias Reinkemeier leads the field heading into Day 2 but only just – snapping at his heels is none other than Daniel Negreanu, less than twenty big blinds behind Reinkemeier’s 896,000 stack.

One talking point was Viktor Blom – not wearing a PokerStars patch but not expected to until PokerStars “reveal” the identity of Isildur1 tomorrow. Blom joined the likes of Scott Seiver, Tom Marchese, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and Jonathan Duhamel on the rail before the day was done.

Big names returning later today including tournament don Jason Mercier and the dynamic duo of Antonio Esfandiari and Phil Laak. The first prize in this event is a cool $1,500,000 with even the runner-up being consoled with a million straight.
