We all know that private home games amongst rich celebrities are all the rage in the US, but according to Molly Bloom one of the top players in the game is Tobey Maguire.
In the lead up to the release of her new book on the subject, former game organiser Bloom told the New York Observer that Maguire would often stage games in order to prey upon rich billionaires. Using his friend Leonardo DiCaprio as bait, Maguire would lure the likes of Andy Beal into high stakes tournaments and cash games where he would then win a lot of money. Indeed, in comparison to his celebrity friends Bloom described Maguire's skills as being on "another level", so much so that he would even buy up poker debts and stake players he thought were +EV.While the newspaper article doesn't go into detail about how much Maguire won and lost, it does speculate that Andy Beal allegedly lost $50 million over the course of an extended session (a figure denied by Beal).
