Thew and Williams take UKOPS honours

Tuesday, 8 November 2011

Former Team Sky Poker pro James Williams has shown he's just as adept at the online game as he is in the live arena after winning the showpiece event of Sky Poker's inaugural UKOPS online festival.

Williams, who won the Sky Poker Tour Main Event at Dusk Till Dawn in September, took down the UKOPS Main Event on Sunday, pocketing £15,714, the biggest prize ever won on the tournament tables at Sky Poker. Williams wasn't the only Team Sky Poker pro to do well in UKOPS with Julian 'yoyo' Thew topping the UKOPS Leaderboard after winning one event and finishing 7th in the Main Event.

"The first ever UKOPS was an amazing success and shows just how far Sky Poker has come in the last 12 months," said Sky Poker's Dave Bland. "To have an online series which was as well received as the Sky Poker Tour has been was really heart-warming for all of the people involved, both business and customer alike. We can't wait to take some of the suggestions that have been made and announce an even better UKOPS in the future."

The inaugural UKOPS certainly proved popular with players, with the prize pool of £218,700 easily exceeding the £140,000 guarantee.
