We've been following the action in Tom Dwan's challenge against Patrik Antonius with bated breath, and now the challenge is going live at the WSOPE this September.
Tom “Durrrr” Dwan has become a phenomenon in the last 12 months and is now widely regarded as the most feared cash game player in the world. This culminated in an open challenge, laying 3-1 against anyone except Phil Galfond, that he would win over 50,000 hands. So far he is ahead after a variance-filled series of sessions vs Patrik Antonius. In London, each player will play Dwan for 500 hands. They have the option of either No-Limit Hold 'em or Pot-Limit Omaha with $500/$1,000 blinds and a $500,000 buy-in. Neither player can leave until 500 hands are played or someone goes bust.Dwan, who has estimated on-line winnings in excess of $10 million, is excited by the challenge. “I am looking forward to sitting down and playing some of the World's best players live in London. There looks to be lots of interest in people wanting to play me but they never seem to appear on-line [Ed Note - Not naming any names, Phil Hellmuth]. It will be interesting to see the response Eddie gets and just who is willing to get it on.”
