The Venetian casino has got its place in televised poker tournaments with its agreement to host National Poker League events. The Bellagio and the MGM Mirage already have connections with the NPL and other Harrah’s casinos will be hosting stops on the NPL World Tour.
According to Kathy Raymond, The Venetian’s director of Poker, the NPL’s international flair “fits in very well with the environment we have at the Venetian.” President of televised games Sam Riddle explained that the Venetian will be 'NPL Central', with Kirk Morrison and Dave Farra providing analysis and narration via a video link.
While the World Championship has a hefty buy-in of £15,000 which gears it towards professional players, there are international heats and various satellite games.
The NPL’s latest World Tour event was in London where Mike Conway won event one, ; £500 no-limit Texas Hold’em game which carried a £5,000 prize. Conway also picked up the prestige of out-smarting UK player Dave ‘El Blondie’ Colclough and ‘The’ Tony G (Australian) who came fifth and third respectively. More NPL games are to be held this week at the City of London’s Loose Cannon Club, before the World Tour moves on to Monte Carlo, Manila, and Toronto.
