Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson recently attempted to turn poker water into wine after he tried to turn $0 into $10,000 playing online. Starting out by playing freerolls and then moving up through the limits until he hit his final target, Ferguson finally succeeded.
It seems that Phil Ivey now wants to out-do Chris Ferguson by doing a similar challenge. Ivey wants to turn $5,000 into a million dollars without busting.
Of course, you have to doubt that Ivey would enjoy grinding of a $5,000 bankroll too much, and so we can imagine he will be getting a lot of side action on the challenge. Ferguson himself has said that he would be tempted to make a bet, and with Ivey being well known for his high-level side action, we can be sure that Ivey will be playing for more than just the $995,000 profit. There has been no clarification about whether Ivey will have a deadline on the challenge.
Whether or not Ivey will take this challenge too seriously is the major question. He is one of the highest-level players and so this might be more a test of his patience than his poker skills. That said, he is one of the most competitive players in the world, and the prospect of failing where Jesus has succeeded may well be enough motivation for Phil. It will certainly make for compulsive railing…
