That's the way to Stu it – Rutter wins GUKPT Coventry

Monday, 24 May 2010

It was a case of fourth time lucky for Stuart Rutter who has won the latest leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT). The Brummie pro had reached the final table in three previous GUKPT events but had never quite managed to seal the deal. He put that right in Coventry over the weekend though, outrunning 141 other players to take a first prize of £41,910.

Rutter, who is a sponsored pro with G Casinos, outlasted a very tough looking final table that included the likes of Roberto Romanello, Jeff Kimber and Nick Wealthall. They all fell by the wayside to leave the Oxford University graduate facing a heads up confrontation with Banstead company director Danny Toffell. Despite facing a 6 to 1 chip deficit going into two-handed play, Toffell managed to hang in for two hours before eventually succumbing when his pocket 4s couldn't outdraw Rutter's pocket 9s. Almost £30,000 in cash should provide some consolation though.

Rutter was understandably delighted at the victory, telling the GUKPT blog, “This win is absolutely perfect timing coming just one week before I set off for Vegas and the WSOP. It gives me a great confidence boost which I always struggle for on the GUKPT having made three previous final tables and seeing them go wrong each time.”

1st Stuart Rutter £41,910
2nd Danny Toffel £29,460
3rd Darren Grosvenor £18,460
4th Hassan Mohammed £11,360
5th Tom Mannion £8,880
6th Jeff Kimber £6,740
7th Roberto Romanello £5,320
8th Rupert Elder £3,900
9th Nick Wealthall £2,840
10th Leon Campbell £2,480

The £250 PLO side event was won by Sylvester Geoghegan who pocketed £4,120 with Stephen Holden taking the £100 No Limit Hold'em side event for a score of £2,440.

The GUKPT Main Tour now takes a break for a few months but there is still plenty of action on offer in its Summer Series. The first of these mini festivals starts on Wednesday at the G Casino in Blackpool with a £500 Main Event taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend. The G Casino in Thanet is also hosting a mini festival over the Bank Holiday weekend with further events planned for Newcastle, Aberdeen, Dundee, Walsall, Luton, Sheffield, Manchester and London over the next few months. The GUKPT proper returns in the second week of August at the G Casino in Luton.

Qualifiers for GUKPT events are up and running at Blue Square Poker.
