Over the weekend the poker world showed its benevolent side once again, this time in the form of charity event featuring some of the UK’s best loved entertainers.
Sponsored by PokerStars, the six player shootout was created after TV presenter Jonathan Ross asked his 2.7 million Twitter followers for their advice on playing online poker.Having discovered the game a few months ago it appears Mr. Ross is now hooked and trying his best to become an online demon. After reading his tweets Vicky Coren was slightly annoyed he hadn’t asked her directly as they’d met on numerous occasions and he was aware she played poker for a living. Eventually the pair began discussing the game and after some prompting from PokerStars they agreed to take part in a special charity event.Offering £105,000 for the winner’s charity, the tournament featured comedians Jason Manford and John Bishop, as well as Boris Becker and the aforementioned Ross and Coren. The final player to take a seat was online qualifier Adam Mohamed. As expected, the banter at the table was as interesting as some of the moves from the amateur players and before long only Coren and Mohamed were left. A short heads-up battle ensued before Coren fulfilled her billing as the table pro and took down the event.Overall the event was a huge success and perhaps a sign of things to come as more and more celebrities start to enjoy the game.>
