A suspected British drug smuggler got more than he bargained for while playing at a poker tournament in Spain last week.

Cops swooped to arrest 53-year-old Robert Knight at a hold'em tournament in Valencia. Knight, from Walsall in the West Midlands, is wanted connection with a conspiracy to import cocaine. He was tracked down follwing a joint operation between the Spanish National Police, the National Crime Agency and West Midlands Police.

"Knight is believed to be a member of an organised crime group involved in the importation and distribution of illegal drugs,” said Hank Cole, Head of International Operations for the National Crime Agency.

"He had been on the run for a number of years but we were able to track him down. Spain is not a safe haven. The NCA and its partners will continue to pursue fugitives relentlessly."

West Midlands Police had been seeking Knight following the seizure of six kilos of cocaine at Heathrow Airport in April 2008. Five other men were arrested at the time and later jailed for their roles in the crime.
