Super-high stakes Omaha update – Gavin “gavz101” Cochrane

Tuesday, 7 June 2011

You may have heard of Gavin Cochrane, or at least his online alias “gavz101”. He regularly battles the likes of Isildur1 and the Dang brothers at $25/$50 and higher PLO and has made over $1.3m playing high stakes cash games so far in 2011.

He wrote on Two Plus Two that he had participated in the nosebleed Omaha cash games at the Rio, with blinds of $500/$1,000/$2,000 lost the biggest pot of his life – a $270,000 monster. Cochrane says he called a 3-bet with 4s-6h-8s-9h and flopped big on Jx-6h-7h. He got the money in against the nut flush draw and a third heart lost him the pot.

So far we know that Patrik Antonius, David Benefield, Ashton Griffin, and Justin “BoostedJ” Smith have joined Cochrane in the game as well as Tom “durrrr” Dwan, apparently one of the biggest losers in the side action.

Ashton Griffin also played a big pot – this one the second-largest of his career and this one a win; he flopped the nuts with redraws and held against an overpair to take a pot worth more than $550k.
