Steve O‘Dwyer wins Epic Poker League Pro/Am event

Tuesday, 9 August 2011

The first event of the Epic Poker League has been played out with nine players winning seats to the upcoming $20,000 6-max event as well as a little extra on top.

Steve O’Dwyer ended up triumphing over the 190-strong field to win not only a free seat but an additional $23,180.

O’Dwyer beat Brandon Mayers to the title after getting it in with A-5 only to run into O’Dwyers A-8. This is how he runs, though - O’Dwyer recently took down the $5,000 Bellagio Cup event for nearly a quarter-million dollars, though that wasn’t enough to qualify him for the Epic Poker League. Free seat is handy, then.

The $20,000 6-max event begins today - with the GPI showing us the best players in the world at the top of the rankings and hundreds of qualified pros, we can expect a good turnout for the first of these hotly-anticipated events.

WPT Player of the Year and WSOP bracelet-winner Andy Frankenberger won the charity event, pledging to donate his entire first prize to charity.
