A Danish newspaper report this week has suggested that the government and New Alliance Party are proposing the end of the state-owned gaming operator Danske Spil’s monopoly. The move comes after the European Union Commission lawsuit filed against the country.
The Copenahagen Post reports a government representative, Anders Samuelsen, commenting there was little point in protecting the monopoly as it will be scrapped in the light of the action from the EU.
Samuelson is reported as saying, “Either the commission will come and take it away, or the monopoly will over time lose its footing as more players seek markets abroad. We must be able to guarantee that the money is still available and by selling licences to international gaming companies, a new source of income will be established.'
