Stars shine at GPI European Poker Awards

Wednesday, 23 January 2013

Last night saw poker luminaries from across Europe head to the Aviation Club De Paris for the inaugural annual European Poker Awards sponsored by Global Poker Index (GPI).

While the ceremony has been running for a number of years, this is the first time the GPI has hosted the event and yesterday evening saw talent reconised across a number of categories.

Following a brief speech by Alex Dreyfus, Chief Executive Officer for GPI, the prize giving began in earnest with the rostrum flooded with talented players from start to finish.

Kara Scott handed out trophies for categories such as UK Player Of The Year, which went to Roberto Romanello, while the special Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Gus Hansen by Jesse May for his achievements in poker over the years.

In addition, Jens Kyllonen took home the Internet Player Of The Year prize while the Europe’s Leading Lady gong went to Lucille Cailly.

Overall the reaction to the ceremony was positive with the likes of Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier tweeting: “Amazing night at #GPI #EPA2013, awarded for number-one French player of the year”.
