Star-studded line up raises €250,000 at the PokerStars charity event

Isabelle Mercier has won the PokerStars Ante Up For Africa event at the EPT final in Monte Carlo. The €4,000 buy in event attracted a star-studded line up of 39 runners with around €250,000 raised for the relief effort in war torn Darfur in Sudan.

The top class line up featured a host of top poker professionals as well as celebrities from the world of sport and showbusiness. Those in attendance included former WSOP Main Event winners Joe Hachem and Greg Raymer, rapper Nelly, rugby players Mike Tindall (with Zara Phillips) and Sebastian Chabal, actor Jason Lewis, Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina and singer Christina Milian.

Arguably the best performance on the night came from former England striker Teddy Sheringham who steered his way through a treacherous final table which included Tony G, Dario Minieri, Daniel Negreanu and Luca Pagano to finish in second. He came up just short in the end, his 10-4 unable to beat Isabelle Mercier’s A-2.

Commenting on her success Mercier said "It was great fun to play, but overall I am very proud to have helped raise so much money." A sentiment the whole of the field would no doubt echo.
