Jeffrey Pollack has held a conference call with reporters about the 2007 World Series of Poker, in which he said that he expects the event to be 14% bigger than last year.
Online poker site sponsors were let down when organisers, Harrahs Entertainment Inc, called for logos to be covered up after the 2006 tournament had started. Despite a large number of participants having won seats playing online poker, players covered caps and t-shirts to prevent the unlawful promotion of online gambling. This year there are ‘garment guidelines’.
Online poker sites accepting US players will not be allowed VIP booths or displays, and have been asked to remove WSOP banners from their sites.
Expert lawyer, Anthony Cabot, told the Associated press that 'implementation of those policies will have a negative economic impact on the tournament.'
However, the Rio Casino-hotel is actually planning to build an extension in order to accommodate the 258 tables needed to seat 3,000 players at a time.
'It's not a target, a goal or a prediction,' Pollack said. 'But you've got to plan for something. We're planning for a top level of 10,000... if there are more, we will figure it out.'
