Spain to have regulated online poker market from June 1

Thursday, 10 May 2012

June 1 is D-Day, or rather ES-Day, for Spanish online poker players. Following the example of countries such as Italy, Denmark and France, the country will have a regulated and segregated market from June 1.

Licences are set to be handed out by the end of June, with over 60 operators having submitted applications including PokerStars, bwin.party, 888poker and Ladbrokes. They will, assuming their licenses are approved, begin operating under .es domain names.

The player pool will initially be segregated but could well be expanded in the future. Operators without a license will be unable to offer their product in Spain.
