Sorel Mizzi wins WPT Paris High Roller

Tuesday, 13 September 2011

The WPT Grand Prix de Paris drew to a close on Sunday with Sorel Mizzi taking the €15,000 buy-in High Roller tournament.

Anyone walking into the Aviation Club could have been forgiven for thinking they'd gone back in time as the final two players were Mizzi and Freddy Deeb, the same pair who went heads up for the High Roller title in 2010.

Just like last year, Mizzi went into two-handed play with a healthy chip lead but unlike last year he didn't let his early dominance slip away. The final hand saw Deeb get his chips in the middle on a jack high board holding AJ. Unfortunately for the former WSOP $50,000 Players' Championship winner, his opponent was holding aces. The turn and river were bricks leaving Mizzi to celebrate another six figure score.

The delighted 25-year-old wrote on Twitter account, “Winner winner chicken dinner ship the 234,495 euros n the trophy! Revenge is sweet! Freddy plyed gr8.”

The win took Mizzi's live tournament earnings past the $4m mark.
