A Welsh fish and chip shop owner and Hoss Parhizkar were both left disappointed when Michael Greco won the Welsh leg of the Grosvenor Poker Tour in Cardiff. Roman Romanello has a string of family-run restaurants in Cardiff. He was confident that he had Greco beat, but was fatally out-drawn in the final hands.
Better known as the character Beppe di Marco from the BBC soap Eastenders, Michael Greco has also had some minor success in celebrity poker tournaments. On leaving the very popular television series, where he played the local hunk, Michael took up playing poker and has been doing so ever since.
Greco was delighted with last night’s win of £100,000. It is his first serious win at a professional level, and he cited concentration as in important factor in lasting out the four days of competition.
He told a Welsh paper that he will spend the money on his house. He also won a Tutima watch and a place in the grand final of the competition in London at the end of November.
