Seven times snooker world champion, Stephen Hendry has revealed a secret love for online poker in an interview with the Glasgow Mail. The snooker ace, who this week begun his bid to win the prestigious Embassy World Championship for the eighth time, told the newspaper it was a great way to relieve the boredom and long hours spent in hotel rooms between matches.
'It's an addiction,’ he enthused, ‘and I'm well hooked. I never miss the stuff on TV either. You know the late-night shows? I watch them to learn. Which is exactly how I got good at snooker as well. You watch the best players. So now I'm watching the best to get good at poker.
'People say it's luck or it's just gambling. No chance. If you watch poker on TV it's the same players at the final table all the time. That's not luck. These guys are highly skilled at what they do.’
Hendry added that his snooker skills have given him a head start when it comes to poker: 'In snooker you can't let your opponent see if you're distressed or if there is something annoying you. You have to keep as emotionless as possible. So we know how to keep a straight face no matter what.'
