Simon Auckland Welsh Amateur Poker Champion

Cardiff’s Grosvenor Casino was the venue for the latest leg of the Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) series. The £75 buy in event was won by Simon Auckland who beat a field of 162 runners to take home the 1st prize of £3,200.

It was fourth time lucky for Auckland as this was his first win in four final table appearances in APAT National events. The key hand was when Auckland clashed with fellow big stack Judi Edwards. Auckland raised on the button with AQ, Edwards re-raised with kings and Auckland called. The flop came down AQQ. Edwards pushed and Auckland called to take down a massive pot. Victory was sealed when Auckland hit a river flush to beat runner up James Davenport’s middle pair.

The final positions were

1st Simon Auckland
2nd James Davenport
3rd Bruce Shannon
4th James Edwards
5th Dean Saunders
6th Simon Stefandoaki
7th John O’Neill
8th Lee Constantine
9th Will Young

Next stop is Dublin with the Irish leg of the APAT taking place at the Fitzwilliam Casino on 30th and 31st May 2009.
