Thursday, 13 June 2013

The PokerStars UK and Ireland Poker Tour's (UKIPT) first tournament on continetal soil got off to a flying start yesterday with 352 playing taking to the felt for Day 1A of UKIPT Marbella.

By the close of play 113 players still had chips with Russian Andrey Vladimirovich Shubin (202,500) the only player to break the 200,000 chip barrier. Also riding high after the opening flight were Robert Wybrew (181,000) and UKIPT Cork third place finisher Pawel Keller (152,700).

Other notables to enjoy a good start included UKIPT Edinburgh season 3 finalist Chris Derrick (142,500) and EPT season 8 Player of the Year Ondrej Vinklarek (126,900). Two of the overall leaders from season 3 of the UKIPT also survived the day. Both Tom Hall and Neil Raine will have work to do on Friday though, resuming with 19,000 and 47,000 respectively.

Those who won't be back include Genting Poker Series and GUKPT winner Albert Sapiano, Sergio AidoUKIPT London winner and our own Dan Smyth.

With today's second opening flight already at the alternates only stage, the €500,000 guarantee looks set to be well and truly smashed. Join us tomorrow to see by how much.
