Thursday, 25 September 2008

Australian cricketing legend Shane Warne has confirmed he will be playing at the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) event in London, leading the 888.com team into the event.

The World Series of Poker Europe is already underway at The Empire Casino at Leicester Square, London, and Warne is due to begin his first day of the £10,000 Main Event at 1pm on Saturday 27th September.

Off the back of his a solid debut at the World Series of Poker main event in Las Vegas in July, where he went deep into Day Three, Warne will be hoping to take that form forward into the main European event on the professional circuit.

Commenting on his latest poker challenge, Warne said, "I'm really looking forward to going to the WSOP in London and just hope I can play as well as I did in Vegas. I'm really enjoying my poker and the intensity of Vegas should hopefully stand me in great stead for London and the televised 888 Poker Open in November."

Gareth Edwards, Director for Poker Marketing for 888.com, said "Shane brings his fierce competitive nature from cricket to poker, so we expect him to put some points on the board very soon. Shane's debut at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas was a great performance where he lasted well into day 3, so we know he has game!"
