Paul Maxfield from Stoke-on-Trent has been voted the second winner of the ‘WilliamHillPoker.Com European Poker Tour Player of the Month’, for April 2005.
In what is reported to have been a closely fought contest, Paul has been awarded the title after with an astounding performance in the WPT at The Bellagio, from which he walked away with over $1,600,000. He is now 8th on the WPT all-time money list.
Winner of the inaugural ‘Player of the Month’ Trophy was Rob Hollink, from Holland, who won the €635,000 EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo - his first EPT after previously winning 6 World Series of Poker (WSOP) events and 1 World Poker Tour (WPT) event. The win lifted him from 81st to 9th in the Rankings, and to 1st in the EPT all-time money list.
Runners up for the April 2005 title were: Joe Grech, credited with 2nd after his fine performance in the Five Star World Poker Classic in Las Vegas; Cemal 'Jimmy' Alp, who made 3 major Final tables in the month; and Stuart Nash, current leader of the William Hill European Rankings who was runner-up in the Main Event at The Vic, and won a Festival Final in Luton.
“Paul can be considered very unlucky not to have won at the Bellagio, only a rivered middle pin straight preventing him from taking the title in the biggest event of the year,” said Phil Quayle, William Hill’s Poker Room Manager, “This result should give all Europeans that travel to the World Series a huge boost of confidence.”
