Scotty Nguyen gallops off with the LA Poker Classic HORSE championship title

Monday, 23 February 2009

Scotty Nguyen defied anyone who casts doubt on his mixed-game ability with another decisive win, this time taking down the inaugural LA Poker Classic $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. tournament for an impressive $340,993.

He finished ahead of David “Chino” Rheem who has been on a veritable storm in live tournaments after final tabling the 2008 WSOP Main Event and taking down the $15,000 Doyle Brunson Classic. The two made a deal during heads-up play, after which Scotty walked away with the title and the money was chopped.

"Before I came down to play this tournament, I told myself 'I'm going to dominate,'" an energized Nguyen said after the event. "This was a good field to play against. But the win here and at the WSOP has got to make people consider me number one in HORSE. And to win this major event before heading into the LA Poker Classic No Limit Hold ‘em Championship; it motivates me, brings my game up and gives me nothing but confidence, baby!"
