Scott Kerr wins the final event on the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour

The final event of the inaugural ANZPT came to a conclusion in Brisbane yesterday and appropriately enough it was left to an Aussie and a Kiwi to battle it out heads up. In the end it was Sydney’s Scott Kerr who claimed the title.

The 21-year-old came back from a seven to two chip deficit against New Zealander Phillip Willcocks. All the chips eventually went in with the youngster holding AQ against Willcocks’ dominated QJ. The board provided no assistance to the Kiwi and Kerr could celebrate a payout of AUD$168,075 (around US$140,000).


The opening season of the ANZPT has proved a great success attracting 1,309 players who competed for prize money totalling around US$2.4m. The main event winners were Karl Krautschneider in Adelaide, Paren Arzoomanian in Sydney, Chris Levick in Melbourne and Danny Chevalier in Queenstown.


Tony Hachem, brother of former WSOP Main Event champion Joe was named ANZPT Player of the Year after top 20 finishes in four of the five events.


The opening event of next year’s ANZPT has also been confirmed. The SkyCity Casino is South Australia will host ANZPT Adelaide from 9th to 14th February 2010.
