Sam Razavi wins PokerStars UKIPT Cork

Monday, 23 May 2011

The PokerStars UK and Ireland Poker Tour event in Cork has come to an end with 602 runners leaving one man standing; that one man is UK pro Sam Razavi who takes home €71,000 – not bad for an investment of just €550. He held the chip lead from the middle of Day 2 onwards and relinquished it just once or twice through the final.

If you missed the coverage then you will be able to see Razavi’s win (er... spoiler alert?) on Channel 4 this summer with footage hosted by PokerStars’s very own Nick Weathall and Liv Boeree. The final eight got together with Razavi holding over 2m chips, a decent portion of all the money.

Beat of the day has to go to German Martin Mulsow, who finished in third place for €25,000 despite getting it in about as good as you can get it with A-A versus A-K. Running kings on the turn and river were a cruel outdraw that all but sent him to the rail; he was gone a few hands later.

David O’Connor didn’t let himself get overrun during heads-up play but still couldn’t overcome Razavi, a heads-up specialist online. Despite this he had to settle for runner-up, though a €41,200 prize must take the edge off.

The full final table placings and payouts were as follows:

1.Sam Razavi €71,000
2.David O’Connor €41,200
3.Martin Mulsow €25,000
4.Jamie Flynn €18,500
5.Alleen McCauley €14,800
6.Adam Jaguscik €11,300
7.Chris Dowling €8,900
8.Peter Burnett €6,900
