Sam MacDonald leads UKIPT Cork

Sam MacDonald leads UKIPT Cork

Friday, 20 May 2011

The opening flight of the latest PokerStars UKIPT event in Cork is in the book with online qualifier Sam MacDonald at the head of the chip counts. There was a sense of deja vu seeing MacDonald at the top of the leader board as the 22-year-old was in exactly the same position at UKIPT Nottingham.

After leading at the end of day 1 at Dusk Till Dawn MacDonald eventually finished in 24th place and will no doubt be looking to go even deeper this time. Joining MacDonald at the head of the leader board this time out in Cork were Richy Landy, Germany's Marc Gaudlitz, Simon Deedigan and Jason Tompkins.

The opening flight wasn't a good one for most of the big names who took to the tables yesterday with JP Kelly, last year's UKIPT Leader Board winner Chris Brammer and our own Nicky Power all hitting the rail. One man still very much in the hunt though is EPT London and UKIPT Champion of Champions winner David Vamplew. The young Scot was down to just 2,500 of his 15,000 starting stack at one stage but by the close of play had worked it up to an impressive 129,000.

Many more big names, including Liv Boeree and Jude Ainsworth, are expected for the second opening day flight that gets under way at 2pm this afternoon.
