SGC’s Purchase Boosts US Poker Influence

SGC’s Purchase Boosts US Poker Influence

Friday, 1 February 2013

Scientific Game Corporation (SGC), a global gaming and lottery provider, has just agreed to purchase WMS Industries.

Paying approximately $1.5 billion, SGC will take control of WMS – an Illinois-based slot machine manufacturer – in a bid to over a “complete portfolio of lottery and gaming products” including online poker.

Indeed, with both companies already having a major influence in the US gaming market, this move is being seen as one which could lead to the emergence of a powerful entity in the online poker market.

Indeed, with strong ties to 888, SGC seems to have a strong foothold in a market which will inevitably be regulated sometime in the future.

Although there are some final procedures to go through before the deal is completed, SGC’s CEO, Lorne Weil, said: “We expect to combine our game content, technology, operational capabilities and respective geographic footprints to create an enterprise poised to capitalize on significant growth opportunities around the globe.”
