Ruslan Vlasov wins Genting Poker Series opener

Monday, 6 February 2012

Ruslan Vlasov is the first ever Genting Poker Series champion. The former Dusk Till Dawn dealer outlasted a 355-runner field (including re-entries) at Star City in Birmingham over the weekend to walk away with a first prize of £16,600 and a seat in the Genting Grand Final worth a further £1,600.

The maiden Genting Poker Series event proved a great success, easily matching the guarantee and attracting a host of the UK's top pros. Of those pros it was the Hendon Mob who enjoyed the most success with Ross Boatman and Joe Beevers cashing and Barny Boatman making it to the final table.

None could match Vaslov though. With play six handed, the final half dozen agreed to a chop based on chip counts before playing on for a small amount of cash and the Grand Final seat. In the end it was left to Neil Ryder to battle it out with Vlasov for the extras as well as the coveted first place on the Hendon Mob database with Vlasov sealing the win when his A7 held up against Ryder's short stacked shove with J5.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 £16,600 + £1,600 Grand Final Seat Ruslan Vlasov
2 £13,700 Neil Ryder
3 £17,550 David L'Honore
4 £10,750 Yucel "Mad Turk" Eminoglu
5 £13,000 Don Jones
6 £16,955 Martin Donohue
7 £3,285 George Clyde-Smith
8 £2,190 Barny Boatman
9 £2,045 Kate Langshaw
