Irish player Roy Brindley has won the Betfair Masters of Europe tournament, despite having his pocket aces cracked during the heads up game. However, his A9 gave him two pair against Swedish professional William Thorson’s KJ, leaving Thorson in second place, with $70,000.
Brindley was clearly in the zone, saying, “I got to the stage where I was really enjoying playing winning or losing. This is the first televised tournament I’ve won in 5 years … it means a great deal. More so financially now we have the baby.' He will take home $120,000.
Not-so- ‘bad boy’ Tony G pledged any winnings to The Princes’ Trust, and a charity which fights extreme poverty in Lithuania, Bedu Turgus. He came third, which will give them $18,000 each.
The competition included Ram Vaswani of the Hendon mob, Julia Helppi and Rolande de Wolfe. Unfortunately, Steve Cordy and Richard Collier, who qualified online, were both knocked out early.
