Ross Johnson wins Coral British Masters Poker Tour Leeds

Monday, 14 June 2010

Considering the other attractions on offer at the moment (namely a small tournament series in Las Vegas and a football shindig in South Africa) a decent field of 69 players paid the £500 entry fee for the latest leg of the Coral sponsored British Masters Poker Tour in Leeds over the weekend.

In the end it was Ross Johnson who had the most to cheer, pocketing £12,770 for the win. Johnson started the final day near the top of the 17 remaining chip counts and after eliminating a succession of players had built up a massive stack.

He kept up that devastating momentum throughout the final table, knocking out Steve Chadwick in fourth with trip 10s, and Ash Hussain in third after his Queens held up against Hussain's AJ. With a seven to one chip advantage going into heads up play Johnson wasted little time in sealing the win. Paul Gardner looked in good shape holding KJ against Johnson's 9c2c but running clubs on the turn and river gave Johnson the win. Gardner aka Swampy had a consolation prize of £7,240.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1st....Ross Johnson.........£12,770
2nd....Paul Gardner.........£7,240
3rd....Ash Hussain..........£4,830
4th....Steve Chadwick.......£3,100
5th....Pete Lee.............£2,420
6th....Julian Davies........£1,720
7th....Barry Carter.........£1,590
8th....Andrew Bak...........£1,040
9th....Tom Feidling...........£770

The £200 side event attracted 57 runners and was won by P Gupta who pocketed £2,260.

The British Masters caravan heads to the Gala Leo Casino in Liverpool for the next leg of the tour from 9th to 11th July. Qualifiers for the £500 Main Event are running at CoralPoker.comCoral Poker.
