After winning the All Africa Poker Tournament recently at the Piggs Peak Hotel and Casino in Swaziland, Greg Ronaldson announced that he would like to follow in the footsteps of Raymond Rahme.
Ronaldson walked away with over $144,000 at the Tournament plus a $10,000 seat for next year’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in Las Vegas. Last year’s Main Event saw fellow South African Rahme turn the seat he won at the Piggs Peak tournament into a third-place finish for three million dollars.
Rahme returned to Piggs Peak to try to win a seat again but was knocked out. However, he left with just over $11,500 as a consolation after winning the second-chance tournament.
Ronaldson has been a regular on the poker scene recently with numerous top finishes, including a recent fourth place finish, and went heads-up with Michael Simoes to earn his win. Simoes earned just over $57,700 and a seat at the 2008 WSOP Main Event as did third place finisher Daniel Callighan, who also took home just over 43,300.
'It was an exciting tournament with 111 entries and totalling 32 hours of play,' said Wendy Graaf, Marketing Manager for Piggs Peak.
'We also had a great balance with both new and regular players. The lady entrants also proved that there are fists of steel under those velvet gloves.'
Graf stated that the next All Africa Poker Tournament would take place from February 28 to March 2 with a guaranteed prize pool of over $431,600 and buy-ins starting at $2,877.
