English snooker star ‘Rocket’ Ronnie O’Sullivan has signed a personal sponsorship agreement with the online poker and casino company 888.com.
888.com currently sponsor Snooker’s biggest tournament, The World Snooker Championship, which gets underway at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield in April.
O’Sullivan’s deal is the latest marriage between the snooker world and online gaming firms. World Snooker Champion Graeme Dott, Grand Prix and UK Masters Champion John Higgins and winner of the UK Championship Ding Junhui all have deals with the online giant. Online casino Wild Jack currently sponsors up-and-coming young players Michael Holt and Ryan Day. And snooker players are known for their love of poker. Matthew Stevens, Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry are all keen players, Stevens a past winner of the 888.com Pacific Poker Open, pocketing $500,000.
O’Sullivan’s deal failed to help his performance in the Malta Cup yesterday as he crashed out of the tournament to Michael Holt, losing five frames to three, continuing his record of not winning a game in Malta for three years.
